In 2025, Spain’s minimum wage (SMI) increases, once again, by 4.4%. This yearly increase directly impacted the financial requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV). Now, the required minimum income for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa is €2,762 per month. On January 29, 2025, Spain’s Ministry of Labour reached an agreement with major trade unions to raise the SMI by €50 per month, bringing it to:

  • €1,184 per month (14 payments per year)
  • €16,576 gross per year

Since Spain’s DNV financial requirements are linked to the SMI, applicants must now meet higher income thresholds.

The New Income Calculation

In Spain, the standardised 12 monthly payments per year regulation is a bit different than you might expect. The gross amount is paid over 14 installments (including extra payments in summary and Christmans). So this new income can be calculated as follows:

  • €16,576 per year ÷ 12 months = €1,381.33 per month

Spain’s Updated Digital Nomad Visa Rules

Digital nomads in SpainThis specialized visa that permits remote workers to legally reside and work in a foreign country (in this case Spain) for extended periods is directly connected to Spain's minimum wage. This year there have been some changes to Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa because of the increase of SMI. Even though digital nomads’ cost of living in Spain changes region to region, the application amount stays the same for all of them. Now, the individual applicants now must earn 200% of SMI—equivelant to €2,762 per month now, previously €2,646 per month—to be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa in Spain.

If you’d like your partner or your dependent spouse to take advantage of the benefits, then you must earn an extra 75% of SMI. The additional amount is €1,035.99 per month, making the total required for two people to €3,798 per month. This number increases for each additional child—25% of SMI per child, €345.33 per month.

Here is a quick example calculation for reference:

  • Individual applicant + partner + 1 child: €4,144 per month
  • Individual applicant + partner + 2 children: €4,489 per month
